Geocaching and Collections!

To mix up our den meetings a little bit I decided to take the boys to our local college campus and go Geocaching. For more information on geocaching check out this quick 2 minute video and/or visit this link HERE:

I decided to incorporate Geocaching into our collecting achievement (Wolf 6a-c or the Sports and Academics Program Collecting belt loop/pin). But it works for so many things including the Maps and Compass belt loop/pin.

When visiting a "cache" the finder is able to, in most cases, swap an item of equal or lesser value for one inside the cache. Example: we found a cache called "Snow Where?" We took a guitar pick and swapped it out for a thing of dental floss. We signed the cache log with our troop number, put it back where we found it and carried on! It was so much fun.

On our college campus there are approximately 16 caches, plenty for more than an hour of fun! We searched for six. We found four, one was reported missing, and one we didn't find. My boys loved it so much we decided to do it another week this month. I've decided this will be my reward to the boys for good behavior. We'll see how that works out!

Anyway, we started a den Geocaching Collection together and then the boys will complete a collection on their own to display at our next pack meeting. See the next post for more details...
